National Museum: Ek bar aur sahi!

 An Experience

Last year around the time of Independence Day, I visited National Museum.I was scared when I read that it was being relocated due to central vista project. It's been a year and the building is still standing tall, LOL! It was not a planned trip. Out of nowhere I gave the idea 'let's go to museum'.Well revisiting a place is not an exciting thing but, let me tell you dear reader (if any) it was very exciting because something very interesting happened! Wish to know? Keep reading!

Harappan city Dholavira

This time we could only explore the ground floor kyuki pairon ki band bajj gyi thi. But this time I read the descriptions carefully.I observed them quite closely and every time I feared I will be scolded by the guard. But never mind it didn't happen. Indus valley section is still my favourite. It has a different vibe of its own.Honestly, I wish to be there forever. It was really a time machine for me.History has always fascinated me and especially this year we have themes in Indian History in the curriculum so it felt very different.I was like, 'mai hi guide ban jati hu iss area ki'!My favourite artefact is as previously told, the dancing girl of Mohenjo-Daro.It is a pioneer of bronze use technique of Harappans. There has also been a rough patch between India and Pakistan over its ownership. So you can imagine how important is that 10.5 cm long bronze sculpture.

Now coming to the interesting part.In the Indus valley section I saw a man aged around 30-35 with a camera and there was also his associate who was reading something.I was quite intrigued by them as I thought they have come to make a documentary film. Was willing to ask but I hesitated, what if they might have said-mind your own business! So I went on without saying anything. After returning home I saw a tweet from a famous twitter handle indianhistorypic that I have been following. They posted the same pictures from national museum which the 30 year old guy was clicking! They were members of the team running this page!!! My godd...Like it would have been great if I could have asked them there. But that's how life is but I got to know how they find such interesting stories for their page.

This object is hotly debated whether it's a shivlinga or a toy,still remains a mystery.Harappans didn't leave a clue!

Sculptures of Buddha can be seen in the Mauryan Period section. They were beautiful.

Bronze sculptures from chola period were spectacular. There were so many amazing pieces but I loved The Natraja sculpture. Its simply beautiful plus it has a symbolic importance.Lord shiva defeating Demon of Ignorance.A strong theme.

There were various paintings of different schools of paintings. There was also a section of decorative arts from 19th century which was also good but cannot match the Indus valley, mujhe toh vahi basna hai.
